When your beloved dog or cat strays from home, it can be a traumatic experience for both of you. Here are some tips/information to assist with reuniting you with your furry companion.

  • View pets on our website under the “Adoptable Cats/Dogs” tab
This section of our website contains all pets that are currently being housed at Humane Society of Catawba County. If you see your pet in this area please call (828) 464-8878 for more information. If you do not see you pet listed in this area please continue to check back regularly as we list animals as they come into our care.
  • Check Catawba County Animal Control to see if your missing pet is currently at the county shelter. Also check local social media lost pet pages.
  • Post flyers in your community.
  • Post to your social media page to help spread the word.

Humane Society of Catawba County will hold lost/stray pets for a period of 72 hours before assessing the pet and placing them up for adoption. As stray animals come into our shelter we scan them for a microchip. If a pet has a microchip we will contact the name registered to that animal.

  • Make sure your pet wears a collar with a current ID tag at all times. HSCC has a tag engraver where you can customize a tag for your pet for a small fee.
  • Microchip your pet! Ensure that you register the chip and update it as your information changes. HSCC offers microchips for $20 to public pets at our weekly vaccine clinics. Call (828) 464-8878 to schedule an appointment.
  • Spay/neuter your pet! Altered pets are less likely to roam away from their homes.
  • Keep your dog on leash or in a fully fenced enclosure when outdoors. Do not leave your pet unsupervised!
  • When running errands leave your pet at home as opposed to leaving them in the car or tying them outside of a store.
  • Keep a easily accessible current photo of your pet on your at all times.
