Save a life, donate a seatbelt.

Imagine getting your new pup home, eager to show them their new life… You open the car door with excitement, forgetting this dog is uncertain and doesn’t know you yet… Then the worst thing happens – the dog you thought was going to be just fine hopping out of the car BOLTS, dragging his leash behind him.

Unfortunately, this was the reality for a previous shelter dog adopted out last year. His story ended in tragedy despite a team of people who did everything they could to capture him. His story rattled us all, and made us want to create change so that no animal slips out of the car after leaving the shelter. We wanted to be able to tell ourselves we would do everything we could to prevent another disaster like this.

No matter how much education we send home with an adopter, it won’t replace a true preventative measure – a dog seatbelt. We called this new endeavor Pinto’s Purpose, honoring the dog HSCC dearly loved by preventing the same thing from happening to anyone else adopted from HSCC. We now encourage (and often require) new dogs leave the building in a crate or seatbelted in to ensure adopters can safely get them inside once they return home with their new pet.

We want to share this story and encourage our community to help us in keeping adopted dogs safe as they arrive home with their new families. If you’d like to make a donation of a seatbelt for our shelter dogs, please find them here on our Amazon Wishlist or drop them off during business hours (we are NOT picky on brand/type).
