Humane Society of Catawba County is thrilled to introduce our new kid oriented web page for all those young people who want to make a difference in the lives of homeless animals.

Alex wanted to do something very special for the shelter animals at Humane Society of Catawba County. So instead of asking for gifts for her 10th birthday, Alex asked her family and friend to donate items from the HSCC Wish List for the shelter animals. Alex wants to be a veterinarian when she is older and already wants to help animals.
The shelter animals thank Alex, pictured with her sister Haley for thinking of them.

If you are interested in celebrating your birthday at HSCC, find out more on our birthday page.
Are you in a Troop or Scouts? Interested in seeing our facility and assisting our mission? Kid's can't volunteer officially until age of 16, but many groups elect to participate in our Wish List Donation Tour. Groups hold a drive of any size (it can be as small as one item brought from home from each troop member or as large as church-wide, neighborhood-wide, or school-wide affair--it's up to you) to collect money or items from our Wish List. The group schedules a tour and brings items with them when they come. We take pictures and the kids get official "thank you's" in our Web Site. It's a great way to do something positive for animals and kids at the same time. For more information, call us at 828-464-8878 to schedule or e-mail us at cassandra@catawbahumane.org

Tours:
Interested in touring HSCC Shelter? A one-hour tour will take you and your group around our facility to visit the animals and see what we do on a daily basis. Tours of our Shelter are one of the educational tools we provide at HSCC. You must make an appointment for a tour. Tours are free of charge; however, donations are always appreciated!

ASK DR. ALOT
Dr. Alot (also known as Lancelot) is one of HSCC's resident shelter cats. From his many adventures, he realizes there are many of us humans that do not understand the needs of his four-legged friends.

If your pet or you have a question, email Dr. Alot using the link below and he will reply and your question might even show up here!

James from Newton asked "My mommy tells me there are harmful plants to animals this time of year, is that true?"

Dr. Alot replied, "Yes, Poinsettia, Mistletoe, and Holly are all poisonous to Dogs and Cats. If your animal eats these plants he or she will have a very upset tummy and may need to be brought to the doctor."

Dr. Alot wants everyone to know the importance of all his four-legged friends having a current rabies vaccination. Click here to see more information about rabies.

oven even with the window slightly open.

Give your pet plenty of cool, clean water at all times.

Provide plenty of shade for a dog that stays outside.

Do not leave your pet shut in an empty house or
tied outside while on vacation.
